Are you drowning in stain color options? Are you starting to realize that some stain colors work on some wood types but not others? Well, look no further than this digital download friends!!!
I’ve put my trial and error to good and organized some of my favorite stains by the wood types they look best on!
Cedar & Mahogany - Exterior Minwax (Woodscapes) stains are listed due to them typically being used on exterior beams/front doors on my projects.
Yellow Pine, Alder, Red Oak, White Oak - Interior Minwax stain colors are listed.
This list will narrow down your options and help you understand which colors are lighter/darker than others on that specific wood type. Some wood types have shorter lists (cedar, mahogany, yellow pine and red oak) and some have lengthier lists (alder & white oak).
Remember - this is put together based on MY actual experience in working with these colors. If a color is on this list, then I have personally seen it on that particular wood type. Stains will appear different based on sanding/staining techniques so always make sure to sample first before committing!
Note - the color samples shown are not tied to a specific wood type but are meant to show the best color representation possible. The stain colors are however organized from light to dark for each wood type.
